The Misool Eco Resort, for land-based diving in Raja Ampat

This gem sits on a private island in the heart of Raja Ampat and is a small eco resort run to European standards. Most divers visiting Raja Ampat elect for liveaboards, but for those who prefer land-based operations, there is no resort in a better location than Misool Eco Resort.

11 separate cottages and villas provide the accommodation and are dotted around the shore or over the shallows where juvenile marine life thrives. All accommodation has air conditioning as well as fans, outdoor Balinese style bathrooms and expansive balconies, many with in-built hammocks for maximum relaxation.

Set around a beautiful shallow bay, the main resort building nestles behind a white sand beach with a stunning view across the nutrient rich waters towards distant Indonesian islands. Here you can feel like you are in the remotest desert island yet the cuisine, accommodation and Raja Ampat diving service are all of a very high standard. Languages spoken include English, German, Indonesian, Italian, French, and Swedish.

The resort is surrounded by their own patrolled 1,220 km² "no take" zone. Due to its remote location and to keep a limit on the use of transport boats, the dive resort packages have fixed pre-determined dates. Within short boat rides there are dozens of excellent dive sites accessible from Misool Eco Resort. What's more, nitrox use is entirely free for all nitrox-certified divers - a great perk for guests who wish to get the best taste of the immense diversity of marine life and topography of the Raja Ampat region.

The resort features a conservation centre and is built almost entirely from indigenous materials, many of which were salvaged or recycled, and the gardens are run using a waste water system. The management are continuously innovating and trying new methods to operate the resort sustainably. So if you want to dive in the paradise of Raja Ampat and stay on a remote yet supremely comfortable island, then Misool Eco Resort could be perfect for you.
